The 2019 1 Book 1 Community book choice is Fly Girls: How Five Daring Women Defied All Odds and Made Aviation History by Keith O’Brien. A former reporter for the Boston Globe, O’Brien tells the fascinating stories of five female early aviators who flew during the Golden Age of Aviation in the 1920s and 1930s: Louise Thaden, Ruth Nichols, Ruth Elder, local resident Florence Klingensmith, and Amelia Earhart. The stories of each woman combine to make for a very enjoyable read for anyone interested in history, aviation, and women’s achievements.
Author Keith O’Brien will speak at the Fargo Air Museum, 1609 19th Avenue North, Fargo, on Monday, October 28. This evening event is free and open to the public. Watch for announcements this summer about additional 1 Book 1 Community events on the West Fargo Public Library event calendar and the 1 Book 1 Community website.
This is the 8th year of the 1 Book 1 Community reading project sponsored by the Friends of the West Fargo Public Library, Friends of the Fargo Public Library, Friends of the Moorhead Library, and Moorhead Community Education.
