On Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2018, construction crews will close the southbound lane of Sheyenne Street from 24th Avenue W. to 26th Avenue W. This closure will allow crews to widen the roadway at 26th Avenue W. to provide more room for detour and construction traffic to turn at the intersection. This is a one-day closure and will only impact southbound traffic. Southbound traffic will need to turn west at 24th Avenue W., turn south at Fifth Street W. and then connect with 26th Avenue W. to head west to the Ninth Street W. detour.
Sheyenne Street is currently closed to all traffic from 32nd Avenue W. to 26th Avenue W. The closure will allow construction crews to safely and efficiently complete pavement removals, utility replacements, and concrete paving in this stretch of the project. The closure is expected last an additional seven weeks, depending on any weather or unforeseen construction delays.
This closure is part of the City of West Fargo’s Sheyenne Street reconstruction project that will improve traffic safety and efficiency on a stretch of Sheyenne Street from 13th Avenue W. to 40th Avenue W. This segment of the project from Beaton Drive to 32nd Avenue W. will increase roadway capacity from one lane in each direction to three lanes in each direction. It also includes the installation of traffic signals at major intersections, utility improvements and the addition of a pedestrian underpass at the intersection of Sheyenne Street and 32nd Avenue W. The two-year project began in 2018 and coincides with the North Dakota Department of Transportation’s I-94 interchange reconfiguration project.
Motorists in this area should plan for delays and congestion during morning and evening commutes and adjust their travel plans accordingly. Motorists should also use care while on the Ninth Street W. detour to ensure they travel safely through the semi-residential area. Always use the ‘S’ check when traveling in and around construction areas – check your speed, space and stress.
