By late evening tonight contractors for the 13th Avenue Road Reconstruction and Infrastructure Improvement Project will reopen the south side of the intersection of 13th Avenue and 14th Street East in West Fargo. All turning movements for the intersection will be restored.
Beginning at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8, the south side of the intersection of 13th Avenue and 17th Street East will have a short-term intersection closure as work to complete removals, watermain, earthwork, and concrete paving through the intersection. During the short-term intersection closure, motorists are not allowed to turn on to the main line of 13th Avenue from the south side. Project work is expected to last for 10-14 days and the intersection will reopen to drivers.
Crews will also close the north side of the 13th Avenue and 47th Street South intersection tomorrow. During the short-term intersection closure, motorists are not allowed to turn on to the main line of 13th Avenue from the north side. Project work is expected to last for seven days and the intersection will reopen to drivers.
Once work is completed the turning movements onto 13th Avenue from the intersections will be restored.
Traffic is currently on the south side of 13th Avenue between 47th Street S and 17th Street E in Fargo and then crosses back over to be carried on the north side of 13th Avenue between 17th Street E and 12th Street E in West Fargo. Traffic on 13th Avenue is carried head-to-head, one lane in each direction, plus turn lanes, in both sections of the work zone.

ACCESS CHANGE – Tuesday, August 7
- LOCATION: Intersection of 14th Street E and 13th Avenue –south side
- CHANGE: Access to 13th Avenue is OPEN
- REOPENING: Tuesday, August 7, late evening
- PROJECT WORK: Crews worked on dirt and gravel work to prepare the intersection for paving operations.

ACCESS CHANGE – Wednesday, August 8
- LOCATION: Intersection of 17th Street E and 13th Avenue –south side
- CHANGE: Access to 13th Avenue is temporarily closed
- REOPENING: Saturday, August 18, late evening, weather pending
- PROJECT WORK: Crews will work to complete removals, watermain, earthwork, and concrete paving through the intersection.
ACCESS CHANGE – Wednesday, August 8
- LOCATION: Intersection of 47th Street S and 13th Avenue –north side
- CHANGE: Access to 13th Avenue is temporarily closed
- REOPENING: Tuesday, August 14, late evening, weather pending
- PROJECT WORK: Crews will work to install new storm sewer and water main on the north side of the intersection
TRAFFIC CONTROL – Phase 2, the current traffic phase will continue until the end of August and phase 3 will continue until the end of September
Work zone: 13th Avenue between 45th Street S in Fargo to 12th Street E in West Fargo
Traffic control: Motorist are carried side-by-side on the north side of the roadway through West Fargo and carried side-by-side on the south side of the roadway through Fargo
OPEN:
- One driving lane plus dedicated left turn lane each direction
- Access to surrounding side streets
- Business access is maintained
CLOSED:
- South side of the roadway – 48th Street S and 17th Street E
- North side of the roadway – 17th Street E and 12th Street E
- Sidewalks – North to south pedestrian crossing is at 9th or 45th Streets
UPCOMING:

- South side access of 14th, 16th, and 17th intersections
- North side access of 47th, 48th, and 50th intersections
To access commerce or travel through the area, drivers are encouraged to use alternative routes for their east-west driving.
PROJECT PHASES – As the project progresses, there will be multiple shifts in traffic control. The anticipated phase schedule is:
- Phase 2 completion (Current) – End of August
- Side-by-side traffic on north side of roadway
- Phase 3 completion – (Current) – End of September
- Side-by-side traffic on south side of roadway
- Phase 4 completion – Middle of October
- 45th Street intersection pavement repairs (Completed) – Approximately 3 weeks in June
- Project completion – Middle of October (100% traffic open)
The purpose of the project is to replace aging infrastructure, with a goal of improving both pedestrian and vehicular safety and increasing roadway capacity through the area.
