West Fargo Public Library digital books and media service updates

Digital Books & Media Updates

The West Fargo Public Library will continue to offer both Libby and Hoopla in 2024. However, some adjustments have been made to reduce costs while maintaining a vast selection of digital books and media. The library has also added two new online services for cardholders.

Due to the increasing costs of Hoopla’s pay-per-checkout service, the library continues to prioritize Libby — the library’s primary mobile app — for eBooks, audiobooks, and digital magazines. Beginning Jan. 1, the library has increased Libby’s capabilities. West Fargo Public Library cardholders will now experience shorter waiting periods for in-demand items. Libby’s extensive collection will continue to grow throughout the year as well. Patrons can easily request items to be added to Libby by filling out the library’s Recommendation for Purchase form. The library is hosting an Intro to Libby class at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24 for patrons seeking more information on using the app.

Hoopla will remain an option for patrons, but the daily spend cap, which was introduced in March 2023, will remain. Patrons are able to check out five items per month from the regular Hoopla collection and unlimited items from Hoopla Bonus Borrows collections.

Through a partnership with the North Dakota State Library, West Fargo Public Library users can now stream thousands of on-demand movies, docuseries, read-along storybooks, and more for free with their West Fargo Public Library card using Kanopy.

West Fargo Public Library patrons can also now access The New York Times online for free when visiting the library and using the library’s public computers or WiFi. Cardholders can also unlock 24 hours of access to The New York Times online from home or on the go through the link on the library’s online resources webpage.

The library also maintains dozens of research databases, online learning tools, and other resources that are free for cardholders. Explore them by using the “Resources” tab at
