During the Monday, Dec. 20, 2021, West Fargo City Commission meeting, West Fargo City Commissioners voted to discontinue curbside collection of building materials. Due the change, property owners must bring the materials to the Transfer Station (1620 Main Ave. W.) for free or request a dumpster. The cost of a 6-yard dumpster is $60.
Building materials include lumber, plywood, boards, planks, panels, drywall, decking, large carpet remnants, debris from renovations and remodeling, landscape timbers, pools, trampolines and fencing. These materials are hazardous to the sanitation crews collecting them and to the public who may pass them. They are especially hazardous during the winter when snow can cover them and hide any dangerous materials sticking out of them, like nails or sharp, jagged edges.
“Discontinuing curbside pickup of building materials will benefit the City by creating a safer environment for our crews and the public,” said Public Works Director Matt Andvik. “It will also cut down on the cost to dump the materials at the Fargo landfill.”
