[ARCHIVED] Suspect charged with manslaughter in assault case

At approximately 12:21 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021, the West Fargo Police Department responded to a report of an assault at the Speedway Event Center in West Fargo. 

During the assault, Roberto Balboa, a 53-year old male from West Fargo, was knocked unconscious by Tomas Cervantes, a 35-year old male from West Fargo. Balboa was transported to a hospital where he died from his injuries at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29. West Fargo Police Department detectives worked to locate Cervantes and arrested him without incident Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2021. This was an isolated incident and did not represent a public safety threat. 

Cervantes was originally booked on Aggravated Assault but is now facing a charge of Manslaughter, a class B felony. The case has been turned over to the Cass County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The West Fargo Police Department would like to extend our condolences to Roberto Balboa’s family and friends as they grieve this loss.
